AI therapy, letting go, robot pants, labelling versus understanding, anxiety

Hi All!
Here is your weekly round up of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward along to a friend if you think they might enjoy.
AI can rewire our brains for good
The past week has been really hard for me as I deal with some personal turmoil I don’t need to go into detail about. However, throughout this time I’ve been using Claude AI to chat and spot blind spots in my own actions and thought patterns.
I can’t believe how beneficial chatting with an AI about trauma, self-limiting beliefs and worry has been in my life. The difference between AI and a traditional therapist is that they don’t have all the context to your situation and can often forget tiny details that reveal big patterns.
However, with an AI agent like Claude you can slowly over time develop context for your life and spot reoccurring patterns that might pop up with how you live your life.
None of this is trying to invalidate how useful therapists can be when working through challenging times. However, I’m beginning to see something quiet beautiful emerge which I think will revolutionise the world.
Within one week of building context within my own conversations I’ve been able to spot patterns from childhood and influences from parents on my belief systems. It has been quite an illuminating experience collating thoughts, experiences and actions into really fast feedback.
Please give this a go if you are going through anything right now.
Learning to let go
I’ve nearly finished reading a FANTASTIC book called The Surrender Experiment. It’s about learning to let go and live with the flow of life opposed to tirelessly fighting against it.
You see, I’m someone who’s always struggled with letting go of control—probably because it’s so scary and it makes you feel powerless. However, I’m beginning to grow tired of fighting against life as I stress over my wishes and commands being what needs to happen.
I’m learning to accept that I don’t know sometimes. I’ve come to a realisation that how could I, someone who knows so little, know whats best, not only for me but for the world around me. It’s almost like this arrogance that thinks I know better then nature herself who has been taking care of life since the dawn of time.
We all have ambitions, dreams and lives we think we want to live, but I’ve realised that I can often get caught up in the how these things actually materialise in life—which can really fucking suck at times. However, what this is forcing me to do, is TRUST. Which is something I’ve definitely struggled with my entire life. So from this day onward as I step into the unknown and trust in something bigger than myself, feel free to use me as an example to whether or not you should also learn to let go.
There’s immense power in powerlessness.
Robot pants
Check out these Robotic pants made by Arc’teryx I think are AWESOME. The world is starting to get really cool with all these technological advancements that are happening day after day!
It’s easier to label than understand
We are simple yet complex creatures. We all look for shortcuts to save mental processing. It’s easiest to group or put labels on people than understand the nuance and learn to read between the lines. It’s a really hard skill to develop but it’s helped me navigate this complex world. It’s been a struggle but over time I’m learning that two things can be true at once, which can throw a spanner into the binary thinking patterns we have.
For example, it’s easy to look at people we might despise or think negatively of and think their actions are entirely bad—when in reality, life is much more complex and obscure than our minds would like to think.
You see this in US politics all the time. People will literally divide and distance themselves from people with differing perspectives. Something that challenges their viewpoint is often deemed as a threat. When in reality both parties can have valid opinions that while conflicting and paradoxical can both be true at the same time.
Understanding this takes time, effort and energy. So if you can, try to understand the in between shades of the world if you want to try foster more harmony on earth with your immediate surroundings.
Anxiety visualised
Something I can relate to lol.
Feel free to give me feedback on Twitter. What did you like? What do you want more of? What do you want less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @JETLRWILLIAMS and put #JETSJOURNAL at the end so I can find it.
Hope everyone enjoys their week!
